Animal husbandry and meat consumption in North Africa and the Arabian Peninsula in Antiquity and Medieval times
This topic includes the current analyses of the mammal remains from Musti (Tunisia, from pre-Roman to medieval period) and Jeddah (Saudi Arabia, from Early to Late Islamic Period) as well as the projects that ended within past few years, like El Zuma and EL Detti (Sudan, post-Meroitic period), Sheikh Abd El Gurna (Late Antique Period), Marina El Alamein (Egypt, Greco-Roman Period). Both current projects are based on standard archaeozoological methods and isotopic and environmental analyses (archaeobotanical analyses) to understand meat consumption and animal husbandry in the area, as well as migratory patterns.
